Is Bamboo Right For You
By: Brian Williams

There are many things that someone may consider when trying to decide if bamboo bedding sets are the right choice for them. The increasing worldwide attention to global warming has been causing many people to make efforts to reduce their effect on the environment. Bamboo fabrics are organic, and therefore provide a material that is more environmentally friendly than many other types of fabric commonly used in bedding sets.

One of the main benefits of bamboo is that it is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, due to the viscose found in it, which is known as "bamboo kun." Studies have shown that 100% bamboo fabric can kill up to 99.8% of bacteria within a 24 hour period. The type of fabric that you choose for your bedding is very important; the average person spends one third of their entire life sleeping.

Another great characteristic of bamboo is that it has a natural ability to wick away moisture, between three and four times the amount of standard cotton. This means that you will be able to sleep better without waking up sweaty on those hot summer nights. In addition, the fiber structure found in bamboo bedding sets is more breathable than that of cotton or polyester, keeping you cooler in the summer, as well as warmer in the winter.

In addition to the previously mentioned benefits, bamboo fabric is also naturally resistant to wrinkles, making it easier to launder than other fabrics. Bamboo bedding is most commonly knitted or woven, providing the elegance of silk or Egyptian cotton as well as only the best in sleeping comfort. All things considered, I doubt I would choose any fabric other than bamboo for my personal bedding.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly to some readers, bamboo is very affordable. After reading about all of the beneficial characteristics of bamboo, you might expect that it would more expensive. In fact, bamboo bedding sets are priced very similarly to cotton sets of the same quality.
